Join us for the second annual Skitoberfest, a fall extravaganza and homecoming taking place in the Boyne Mountain Village and surrounding area. Skitoberfest celebrates the coming winter season with a Snowsports Summit hosted by Cary Adgate and the best of fall’s family offerings in an Oktoberfest style setting. Highlights include great food, Michigan brews, live music and guest celebrities. Everyone is invited to experience this event and a special invitation goes to our family of loyal BOYNE homeowners and passholders. It’s art, it’s drama, it’s entertainment plus food, beer, wine and fun for everyone!

THE Giving

Skitoberfest: Giving Back to the Community:
Introducing the Warren Miller Freedom Foundation, a young entrepreneur program serving to educate area youth on the steps of conceiving, planning, and forming a business on their own and truly achieve young entrepreneur success. Educational sessions to be offered at Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands and FREE of charge to interested youth. Classes are once per week for 10 weeks and dependent on interest, a 10-week session could be offered as early as this winter season.

The program targets ages 12-17 and local schools and youth organizations are asked to assist in generating awareness for this youth opportunity. The program focuses on development of the entrepreneurial spirit and is taught by area professionals.

During the Skitoberfest event, the program will have a booth in the Snowsports Summit with informational flyers, Warren Miller videos and a sign-up sheet where those interested can let us know whether winter or spring is better for them and/or if they are interested in learning more. http://www.warrenmiller.org/

Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa and the Friends of the Betsie Valley District Library cordially invite you to participate in what is quickly becoming one of northern Michigan’s favorite running events. Whether you’re a serious distance runner or you’re looking for a scenic walk through the rolling hills of northern Michigan, you’ll feel right at home. The course is comprised of 50% asphalt country roads and 50% hard pack stone raised trails. Held at Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa, the runners courses include some of the most beautiful trails in Benzie County. The runs will be professionally timed by Gault Race Management with ChronoTrack. Proceeds from the run benefit the Betsie Valley District Library. Betsie Valley Run is held annually on the first Sunday of October.

Monday through Thursday, October 4-7, 2010

Students will create a series of 3 to 9 small paintings on a specific subject. These works will be mounted on a full sheet of watercolor paper with related wash painted on it. The subject could be a barn. Each small painting is a view or detail of it. These are arranged on a large paper prepared with a wash of barn texture. Other suggestions are trees (leaves, twigs, blossoms, etc.) birds, animals, fish, people, etc.Edee encourages originality and will demonstrate many of her traditional as well as innovative ways of creating beautiful effects with watercolor. In-depth critiques along with color and design instruction make an Edee Joppich workshop an invaluable opportunity for serious painters at every level of experience.

Edee Joppich graduated from Marygrove College with graduate studies from Wayne State University. Her inspirational classes are widely sought after. Endoman Promotions and Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, Michigan are pleased to present the Fifth Annual Peak2Peak Mountain Bike Classic, presented by Right Brain Brewery. This epic event is held in and around the beautiful and gently rolling terrain which surrounds Crystal Mountain and will start and finish right at the resort!

If you haven’t ridden this awesome course, this has got to be the year… here are just a few of the great things about racing the P2P: first is the venue. The trail system, which includes both Crystal Mountain property and state land, provides some of the most fun riding in Michigan. The hardwood and pine forests along with rambling two-tracks and flowing single-track will have you humming as you race. The course is fast and challenging but not so difficult that racers new to the sport won’t have a great time. Plus, the pre- and post-race festivities at the Mountain get better every year and while the adults manage to find their way to “adult” activities (read: quaffing cold ones post-race), the general atmosphere is totally family-friendly.

The P2P also serves as a great “warm-up” race to the world famous Iceman Cometh Challenge, this year held three weeks later, on November 6th. And, it will give those riders who weren’t able to get into the Iceman an opportunity to test themselves one last time for the season.

Then there’s the time of year: great temps, beautiful colors – ideal for hearty competition and great family fun. The Clipper chair lift will be running again to view great racing action as the riders scream down the mountainside. And don’t forget the Tour de Tykes kid’s race held immediately following the big event (check with Crystal Mountain for details on the TDT).  See you at the Race!
