Bridge walk starts at 7:00 a.m.

The walk begins at 7:00 a.m. You may START walking anytime after the Governor’s party starts the walk at approximately 7:00 a.m. NO ONE WILL BE PERMITTED TO START AFTER 10:00 a.m., so ARRIVE EARLY. All four lanes will reopen to traffic promptly at noon. Buses will pick up any walkers still on the bridge starting at 11:30 a.m.

Walk Route, Transportation and Parking

The walk begins in St. Ignace, at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge in the UPPER PENINSULA, and ends in Mackinaw City at the south end in the LOWER PENINSULA. To begin the walk you may:

Drive to St. Ignace, park your vehicle, walk the bridge and then return to St. Ignace on buses provided by the Mackinac Bridge Authority. The bus loading area is located at Conkling Park and the State Dock on South Huron Avenue in Mackinaw City, or

Buy your tickets in Mackinaw City at the bus loading area, board a bus to St. Ignace, walk the bridge and then return to your vehicle. Tickets go on sale and buses begin transporting walkers at 4:00 a.m. from Mackinaw City. People catching a bus from Mackinaw City to go north and begin the walk should arrive early. The last bus leaving Mackinaw City for people wanting to start the walk will be at 10 a.m. Lines may be long and there will be no extension of this deadline. Bus services from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace will end at 2:30 p.m. Accessible buses will be available. A limit of two additional people may accompany the person requiring transportation on the accessible bus.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic during the walk, except for the official walk shuttle buses and emergency vehicles, from 6:30 a.m. to noon. Participants in the walk who intend to drive across the bridge for the start should do so prior to 6:30 a.m. Otherwise, participants should plan to use the official walk shuttle buses to reach St. Ignace during the walk hours.

Anyone who cannot complete the walk before 11:30 a.m. will be picked up by a bus and brought to the finish line so the bridge can reopen to vehicle traffic promptly at noon.

Traffic and Restrooms

The two EAST lanes on the bridge are used by walkers and the two WEST lanes by event vehicles and emergency vehicles. Leelanau Harvest Tour – September 16, 2017

LHTPedal through Scenic Leelanau County

Saturday, September 16, 2017

Tour Overview

The Leelanau Harvest Tour is a great biking adventure for both families and single riders as the fall colors begin to show and temperatures begin to cool. Leaving from the Suttons Bay High School, routes of approximately 20, 40, 65, and 100 miles wind throughout beautiful Leelanau County on excellent paved roads passing by farms, orchards, vineyards, dunes, and through quaint villages. So come, ride, relax, and enjoy all that this beautiful peninsula has to offer.

Four Beautiful Routes

After nine miles on the Leelanau Trail, the 20 mile route follows the east side of South Lake Leelanau then returns to the Trail to finish in Suttons Bay. Being mostly flat this is an ideal route for younger riders.

The 40 mile route begins the same as the short route then continues north along the east side of both North and South Lake Leelanau and passes though the village of Lake Leelanau before returning to Suttons Bay via the Leelanau Trail from Dumas Rd.

After leaving the Leelanau Trail 10.5 miles south of Suttons Bay, the 65 mile route heads west through Maple City, north around Little Traverse Lake, through Lake Leelanau, up the east side of North Lake Leelanau and then over Herman Hill to the finish.

The 100 mile route extends the 65 mile route north to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula and the village of Northport with more hills and scenic views.

Leelanau UnCaged – September 30, 2017

Leelanau UnCagedThe fifth annual Leelanau UnCaged will be Saturday, September 30th 2017 in Northport, Michigan.

It will be a full day of music, dance, food and art.

This event is inspired by John Cage, the famous American composer of music who once said of Spain that it was “the multiplicity of simultaneous visual and audible events all going together in one’s experience and producing enjoyment.”

So be ready to have the senses stimulated with an Uncaged, John Cage day.
