Leelanau Peninsula has become well-known for its Riesling and other cool-climate white varietals and blends. What is often overlooked, however, are the high-quality red wines being grown in the region.

“We’re growing great reds on the peninsula, and we look forward to sharing them,” says Alan Eaker, owner of Longview Winery in Cedar. “Our Pinot Noirs are light and aromatic, showing more of the true characteristics of the grape varietal than many other regions. Our Cabernet Francs and Merlots are bigger and more complex with a memory of the Leelanau Peninsula in every glass.”

To help get beneath the surface, the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail hosts a fun event to explore and discover great red wines of Leelanau Peninsula. The Hunt for the Reds of October takes place weekdays (Monday through Friday) during the month of October. For the entire month of October, your ticket gets you a complimentary pour at each of more than 20 participating wineries offering diverse red wines: big and bold Cabernet Francs and Merlots, aromatic and spicy Pinot Noirs and many more.

WIN FREE TICKETS!
Scan your completed ticket and email to info@lpwines.com by November 4 for a chance to win TWO tickets to any event along the trail.

In addition, the event benefits the American Red Cross of Northern Michigan with $5 for every ticket being donated the cause. Great wine for a great cause? It doesn’t get better than that!

Fun pairing alert to try this weekend!

Psst...when in doubt, just have s'more wine ; )

—with Aurora Cellars

Aurora Cellars
Try a Fun pairing for Memorial Day Weekend! It's time for S'mores (try this delightful cookie version). Yes, you can pair them with Aurora Cellar’s Medium Sweet Riesling (2016). Our wine has beautiful stone fruit aromatics with hints of minerality from the soil where it is grown on the Leelanau Peninsula. The fruit that was harvested had a perfect balance of sugar and acid. What a perfect burst of flavor when you pair these two!

S’mores Cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt, coarse
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup dark-brown sugar
1 large egg
Ghirardelli 60% cacao dark chocolate chips
Marshmallows, halved

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a food processor, pulse oats until finely ground. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt; pulse to combine. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, scraping down side of bowl. With mixer on low, beat in flour mixture just until combined.

2. Drop dough by tablespoons, 1 inch apart, onto two baking sheets. Top each with 4 chocolate chips. Bake just until lightly golden, 11 to 13 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through. Remove sheets from oven; heat broiler. Top each cookie with a halved marshmallow. Broil until marshmallows are lightly browned, watch closely. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Makes 24 cookies.
