Western U.P. Fall Color Update – September 22, 2021

Fall Color Update – September 22, 2021

Happy First Day of Fall! Anyone who is anxious to get out and catch the fall color show, the interior parts of the Western U.P. should offer some nice early color viewing this weekend – September 24 – 26, 2021 – with some likely stretches of near-peak color happening in the high terrain. The Copper Peak adventure ride is scheduled to be in operation. The lift-ride and the climb to the top of the ski-jump is a great way to take in the fall color.

Interior routes in the Western and Central U.P. should be coming into peak this weekend and next week and you should be able to see a lot of peak colors along these routes late next week and next weekend – October 1 – 3, 2021.

Fall Color

FROM U.S. Forest Service - Ottawa National Forest
Warm summer nights have given way to crisp and cool fall evenings. Suddenly, a random tree branch has changed from being one in a sea of green to a vibrant pop of red.

Whether you are not quite yet ready for the end of summer or you are excited for sweater weather and pumpkin spiced everything, the trees are heralding the change.

The Ottawa is no exception and our recreation staff captured this picture of some fall color they saw in the Sylvania Wilderness. Colors are currently at 15-25% of peak, depending on if you're visiting the north districts or the south districts. If you are hoping to catch a glimpse of this year's colors, the end of September into the first week of October is predicted to be peak season this year. #westernup #fallcolorreports #fallcolorphotosWarm summer nights have given way to crisp and cool fall evenings.
