Grand Hotel History Weekend – October 4 – 6, 2019

Grand Hotel History Weekend

You’re invited to Grand Hotel’s 11th Annual History Weekend with a unique look into the story behind the wood structure built in 1887 as Grand Hotel celebrates its 132nd Anniversary in 2019.

Saturday morning Bob Tagatz, Grand Hotel’s Resident Historian will take you on a fascinating journey through the history of Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel. Mr. Tagatz, named Historic Hotels of America 2014 Historian of the Year, is a natural storyteller who will intrigue you with information about the hotel’s 131-year history and how the island and the hotel came to be what they are today.

One of the highlights of this year’s program will be a Saturday afternoon presentation about the Mackinac Bridge from Chief Engineer, Kimberly Nowack. Kimberly has been the Chief Engineer of the Mackinac Bridge since 2002 and is the first woman to hold the position. A graduate of Michigan Tech, Kimberly has authored and presented papers about the Mackinac Bridge to regional and international audiences and enjoys hosting groups at the bridge for presentations and tours.

All guests will enjoy evening receptions and a full breakfast and dinner daily as well as the legendary Grand Luncheon Buffet on Saturday.

Fall is a great time of year to experience the solitude of Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel. We hope to see you for this special event.

Grand Hotel – Murder Mystery Weekend – October 18 – 20, 2019

Grand Hotel - Murder Mystery Weekend

Consider yourself warned – not everything is how it seems at Grand Hotel during Murder Mystery Weekend.
Join us in October for an interactive Murder Mystery Weekend brought to you by The Murder Mystery Company – founded in Michigan.

Announcing the 2019 theme Death of a Gangster – A 1920’s Mafia Marriage Murder Mystery

You’ve been invited to the Dunn Speakeasy for the wedding of the year! In this “married to the mob” event, you’ll never know who to trust. With the two families merging together, someone is bound to lose power, which means someone else will lose their life. Get on the trolley and solve this case with your fellow detectives.

Death of a Gangster

Dress like the cat’s meow for this mafia wedding. Flapper dresses, zoot suits, feather boas and headbands, pinstriped suits and fedoras are all appropriate. Traditional wedding attire is perfect too. If you aren’t feeling the theme dress as a private detective to help solve the crime, just don’t frame the wrong guy.

The intrigue begins Friday night and the crime is solved Sunday morning.

Upon check-in, you will receive your first packet of information and clues. Friday will be the kick-off performance which will set the tone of events and when the first murder takes place.

On Saturday there will be a brief gathering with the Detective who will explain the clue hunt that involves finding some of the suspects in different locations throughout the hotel. This will also allow guests some time on their own to enjoy the beauty of Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel.

Come back on Saturday afternoon where Act II will be performed and another murder will take place. The evening will conclude with three interactive mystery experiences and guests in different groups will be rotated into the mystery experiences. These will include: investigating a crime scene, suspect interrogation, and training with the Detective on how to catch somebody in a lie.

Sunday morning the murderer will be caught and the mystery will be solved!

Come join the intrigue and help solve the year’s mystery with entertainment all weekend, a full breakfast and dinner daily, Saturday Grand Luncheon Buffet, evening receptions, and free golf green fees on The Jewel (cart fee required).

*Stay an additional night Sunday, October 20, 2019, for $249 per room, per night. (additional rates apply)

Make your reservation online or call 1-800-334-7263 for availability.

Legacy Five at Grand Hotel – October 19 – 21, 2019

Legacy Five

Come experience Legacy Five performing live at Grand Hotel

with special guest, Christian Comedian Dennis Swanberg!

Enjoy the Gospel and Christian music of band members:
Josh Feemster – Tenor
Scott Fowler – Lead Singer
Scott Howard – Baritone
Matt Fouch – Bass
Josh Townsend – Pianist

Performing at Grand Hotel for the last 10 years, we look forward to welcoming Legacy Five back to the Grand stage this October. When the Legendary Cathedral Quartet retired in December of 1999, Scott Fowler and Roger Bennett decided to continue the rich musical tradition of Southern Gospel Quartet singing. Legacy Five was organized and had their official debut in January 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia. Since that day, they have made a major mark on the Southern Gospel Music world. Immediately audiences responded overwhelmingly to their four-part harmony and their ability to effectively communicate the message of Christ. Since the quartet’s formation, they have established and maintained a firm place at the top of Christian music.

Dennis Swanberg

We are honored to have this group perform for our guests this fall.

To learn more follow their Facebook page or visit their website.

The Legacy Five overnight package includes accommodations, dinner the night of arrival in the Main Dining room, breakfast Monday morning in the Main Dining Room, Sunday evening concert and Monday morning worship.
